Villa boss Graham Taylor told www.avfc.co.uk: "We’re hoping that he can return to training today (Thursday), which would put him in the frame for Saturday.
"He’s had a soft muscle injury, which has required treatment throughout the week and there’s no doubt we were right to take him off at half-time against Fulham.
"If he had played on, the injury would have been much more severe and would have probably kept him out for a few matches.”
Meanwhile, Darius Vassell is definitely back in the squad - the England striker suffered no reaction on his toe injury in Villa's reserve game with Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
