Aston Villa have completed the signing of Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey in a transfer believed to be worth in the region of £30m.
Villa had already confirmed an agreement was in place to sign the 23-year-old Jamaica international and the player has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract until 2025.
“Leon is a hugely exciting young striker with great pace and creativity,” manager Dean Smith told AVFC.co.uk. “He has enjoyed a successful career at Leverkusen and we are now looking forward to watching him show his skills and talents for Aston Villa in the Premier League.”
Bailey arrives as an ambitious Villa’s third first-team signing of the summer after a club record deal to sign Emi Buendia from Norwich and the return of veteran Ashley Young as a free agent, 10 years after he left Villa Park for Manchester United.Born in Kingston but based in Europe from the age of 14 when he moved to Austria to join Red Bull Salzburg feeder club Liefering, Bailey scored nine goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season. Overall, he made 156 appearances for Leverkusen since joining from Genk in January 2017.
