Aston Villa have launched their new Kappa home shirt for the 2021/22 season, with the look built around the club’s longstanding traditional claret and blue.
Adorned with blue sleeves, the claret body of the shirt features a striped pattern, with pinstripes contrasted within bigger vertical stripes in a nod to the club’s past successes.
Jack Grealish, Tyrone Mings, John McGinn, Ollie Watkins, Jodie Hutton, Marisa Ewers, Sarah Mayling and Remi Allen, are the Villa players, male and female, who feature in the launch video.
The 2021/22 season promises to be a big for both Villa’s men and women.
The men saw a big rise up the table last after narrowly escaping relegation in 2019/20 and will be hoping that another ambitious summer recruitment plan will see them improve again and record a first top-half Premier League finish since 2011.
Emi Buendia has already arrived from Norwich in a club-record deal, while the club is hopeful that Grealish will sign a new contract despite high-profile transfer interest, and there are still plans to land another attacking player – Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham is a £40m-rated target.
For the women, 2020/21 marked an important step in the right direction after surviving in the WSL in their first ever season as a top-flight club. The aim now is to improve and rise up the table.
Again, recruitment is a huge part of that plan. The aforementioned Allen and Mayling have both arrived this summer, both of whom are proven WSL players. New goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has moved across from Birmingham and is one of England’s brightest young talents, while popular Swiss forward Alisha Lehmann has made the switch from West Ham.The new Villa home shirt is available to buy from the club's official website now.
