Aston Villa vs Leicester Preview: How to Watch on TV, Live Stream, Kick Off Time & Team News

Aston Villa host Leicester this Tuesday in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi final, with the home side aiming to secure a place in a domestic cup final for the first time since 2016, when they faced Arsenal in the FA Cup final.

The Foxes come into the second leg with their own domestic pedigree. City fans will be hoping to relive the glories of the 2000 League Cup final, when a Matt Elliott double secured a famous win against Tranmere Rovers.

Team News

Aston Villa come into the game with no new injury concerns. Tom Heaton and Wesley remain on the sidelines, having both been struck with season-ending injuries.

There still isn't a return date for John McGinn, who suffered a fractured ankle in December, but Keinan Davis is back in training ahead of a return to first team action over the next week or so.
Brendan Rodgers

Leicester fans are fretting over the fitness of talisman Jamie Vardy. He was taken off before half time during the Foxes' 4-1 win against West Ham on Wednesday, and initial viewing suggests he may not make the second leg.

However, Rodgers downplayed those fears on Friday, stating as quoted by BBC Sport"It's not his hamstring it's a glute, so we're hopeful for Tuesday. But there's a little bit of work to do. He'll get some work in with the medical team. He'll stay with them for the weekend."

Predicted Lineups

Aston Villa Reina; Guilbert, Konsa, Hause, Mings, Targett; Drinkwater, Nakamba; Trezeguet, El Ghazi, Grealish.
Leicester City Schmeichel; Pereira, Evans, Soyuncu, Chilwell; Ndidi; Perez, Tielemans, Maddison, Barnes; Vardy.

Head to Head Record

Tuesday's game will be the 101st game between these two sides. Leicester currently hold the advantage with 42 wins to Aston Villa's 33. There have been 25 draws between the two clubs.

Kelechi Iheanacho

The first leg between the two sides saw a resilient performance by Villa. Frenchman Guilbert snuck in to reward Villa's play in the first half with a deserved lead, only for Kelechi Ihenacho's equaliser in the 74th minute to stop the Villans from winning.

Recent Form

Villa's push to stave off relegation got a massive boost in midfweek when they managed a comeback victory against Watford as Tyrone Mings' fortuitous winner sent Villa Park into raptures.

Generally, Villa's home form has been up and down. Recent wins against relegation rivals Norwich and Newcastle have been crucial, boosting their own chances of survival.

However, Leicester fans will point to their 4-1 victory at Villa Park earlier in the season as to why they come into the second leg as favourites.

Jack Grealish

Iheanacho continued his recent good goalscoring form with a cool finish against Brentford on Saturday to send the Foxes into the hat for the FA Cup fifth round.

Leicester had previously gone three games without a win, including losses to Burnley and Southampton in consecutive matches this January. However, they were brilliant in the 4-1 win over West Ham, with Ricardo Pereira impressing in particular.

Here are each sides' last five results in all competitions.

Leicester Aston Villa
Brentford 0-1 Leicester (25/1) Aston Villa 2-1 Watford (21/1)
Leicester 4-1 West Ham (22/1) Brighton 1-1 Aston Villa (18/1)
Burnley 2-1 Leicester City (19/1) Aston Villa 1-6 Manchester City (12/1)
Leicester City 1-2 Southampton (11/1) Leicester City 1-1 Aston Villa (8/1)
Leicester City 1-1 Aston Villa (8/1) Fulham 2-1 Aston Villa (4/1)

Prediction

The fitness of Vardy will be crucial in deciding whether Leicester win this match. The speed and unrelenting movement of the former England striker adds a dimension to Leicester's play that cannot be replicated by another player.

If the striker doesn't play, the tie becomes a much more even affair.

Jamie Vardy

Jack Grealish's form has been nothing short of outstanding this season, and both an England call-up and a big-money move seem right around the corner for the attacking midfielder.

With Grealish leading the home side, expect Villa Park to be bouncing. With Leicester potentially Vardy-less, Villa could have enough to reach their first domestic final since 2016.

Prediction: Aston Villa 2-1 Leicester City
