Man Utd & Spurs among Premier League clubs to make Kieran Trippier enquiries

Nine Premier League clubs have made enquiries to Atletico Madrid over the availability of Kieran Trippier, 90min understands.

The England international left Tottenham for Spain in the summer of 2019 for an up-front fee of £20m, and formed a key part of the Atletico side that won last season's La Liga title.

He has been heavily linked with a return to England in the last few transfer windows, but Diego Simeone's side consistently asked for his £50m release clause to be paid in full, putting off potential buyers.

However, 90min has learned that as many as nine Premier League clubs are keeping their eye on Trippier in case Atletico show any desire to sell him in the January transfer window.

90min reported recently that Newcastle are willing to offer the right-back the biggest contract in the club's history - worth roughly £150,000 a week - in order to sign him, with head coach Eddie Howe a huge fan of his.

Trippier's boyhood club Manchester United - who were knocked back by Atletico in the summer - have asked about his availability, as have former club Tottenham.

Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton and Wolves are among other top flight sides that are being kept in the loop regarding Trippier's future.

Trippier is determined to make Gareth Southgate's England squad for the 2022 World Cup - competition for spots at right-back is fierce with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James and Kyle Walker all impressing this season.

The 31-year-old has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Atletico so far this term, but has missed five of their last six games due to a shoulder problem.

The Rojiblancos have struggled so far in their defence of their league title, dropping to fifth in the table and sitting 14 points behind leaders Real Madrid.
