Man Utd vs Aston Villa: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Manchester United and Aston Villa conclude the FA Cup third round fixtures on Monday night, with
the game pitting an old master in Ralf Rangnick against a up and coming star in Steven Gerrard.

Villa have won at Old Trafford already this season when a late goal from Kourtney Hause sealed a famous Premier League victory under Gerrard predecessor, Dean Smith, in September. Bruno Fernandes also missed a stoppage time penalty in that one.

The draw for the fourth round has already been made and both clubs know that a home tie against Championship club Middlesbrough awaits if they make it through here.

Man Utd team news

Rangnick appears to be taking this competition very seriously and has vowed to play his 'best possible team'. The German has ruled out making wholesale changes, as was previously the case when United faced Young Boys in the Champions League.

Victor Lindelof could return from a recent bout of Covid-19 and could partner Raphael Varane. But Harry Maguire is still an injury doubt and Eric Bailly is away on international duty with Ivory Coast.

Paul Pogba is set to be sidelined until February as his slow injury recovery continues.

Aston Villa team news

Villa fans hoping for an instant debut for January signing Philippe Coutinho are set to be disappointed as he only arrived in England on Sunday.

Ashley Young has been described as having an 'outside chance' of facing his former club as he continues to recover from a broken toe. Leon Bailey is also a doubt as Villa carefully monitor him.

Marvelous Nakamba is still in the early stages of an expected long-term absence, while Bertrand Traore and Trezeguet are both on AFCON duty.

Man Utd vs Aston Villa score prediction

Aston Villa have been a different side since Steven Gerrard replaced Dean Smith in November and victory at Old Trafford for the ex-Liverpool skipper would be huge. But recent Premier League defeats amid frustrating postponements don't exactly spell positive momentum for the visitors.

United are equally lacking the kind of positive momentum fans would have expected under new boss Ralf Rangick. They have home advantage, although Old Trafford has hardly been the fortress it once was in the last few years.

Expect this one to be cagey and tight, with extra-time a distinct possibility.

Prediction: Man Utd 2-1 Aston Villa (AET)
