West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini could be missing as many as eight first-team players for his side's trip to Tyneside.

West Ham United v Manchester City - Premier League

Marko Arnautovic is being assessed by the club's medical staff this week after limping off in the closing stages of the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City with a hip injury.

Andy Carroll was an unused substitute in that game, so could be recalled to the starting XI in place of Arnautovic whilst Jack Wilshere is pushing for a place in the squad after recovering from an ankle problem.

Ryan Fredericks will be out until 2019, having sustained a fibula injury against Huddersfield earlier this month.

West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur - Carabao Cup Fourth Round

Winston Reid, Carlos Sanchez, Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko are all long-term absentees.

Newcastle will be hoping that club captain Jamaal Lascelles is available. The centre-back has not featured since 3 November.

Jonjo Shelvey could return to the starting line-up after shaking off a calf injury to feature on the bench against Burnley.

Southampton FC v Newcastle United - Premier League

Back-up goalkeeper Karl Darlow is Rafael Benitez's only other injury concern, as he missed Monday night's win with an elbow problem.

West Ham United v Newcastle United - Premier League

The previous meeting between the two sides, on 23 December last year, was an early Christmas present as Newcastle won an absolute thriller of a contest 3-2 at the London Stadium.

Newcastle will be confident of victory on Saturday, having turned around their fortunes somewhat after a miserable start to the season.

Recent Form

Newcastle are undefeated in their last four matches, making them one of the Premier League's form clubs.

The Magpies will be confident of extending their unbeaten run against West Ham, who have only won once in their last six Premier League fixtures.

Victory is a must for both sides, who sit only four points above the relegation zone, with the hosts currently 13th in the table and West Ham one place below in 14th.

Prediction

This is a game that sees two teams enduring contrasting runs of form and, with Newcastle unbeaten in November, they will be confident of extending their recent run of wins into the festive period.

FBL-ENG-PR-WEST HAM-MAN CITY

West Ham have been beset by injuries in recent weeks, and their abysmal performance at home to Manchester City will have done nothing to boost the team's confidence.

However, the Irons do have a favourable fixture list as they do not face another side currently in the Premier League's top five until January 12.

Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 West Ham
