Villa left-back Shane Lowry is unlikely to return to Plymouth, according to Argyle boss Paul Mariner.
The 20-year-old defender recently completed a three-month loan spell at Home Park and made 13 appearances for the Championship strugglers.
Mariner was keen to bring the Australian back to the club and asked Villa about the possibility of a new deal.
However, with Villa currently competing on three fronts, Mariner accepts Lowry is unlikely to return to the Devon club in the near future.
"We have had some communication with Villa, and they have a lot of games coming up," Mariner told The Herald.
"We have been told they are really not looking to let people go out (on loan). That's quite understandable."
