Taylor had a 45 minute run-out for the reserves last week and looked set to make an appearance against Charlton.
Villa boss Graham Taylor told the club's official website: “Ian trained again today (Tuesday). He’s got this calf problem, which we’ve had MRI scanned and it hasn’t shown anything for us to concern ourselves about. But he ‘s seeing somebody else about it, because he just doesn’t feel happy with it.
“We’ve had the scans and so far they haven’t shown anything that should really concern us. Now we’re just trying to sort this out and get to the bottom of it.
“He’s had a bad time of it and it’s a disadvantage to the club, because you know that Ian will come forward from midfield and it’s very unlikely that he’ll go 90 minutes without at least having a couple of shots at goal.”
