The Old Transfer Window is Closing Rapidly

Wouldn’t it be rather ideal for example, if we could switch on and off our support for the club, attend the games of a weekend or a mid-week evening, then forget about all things claret and blue until our next trip to watch the team in action?

No, of course it wouldn’t, in fact far from it, and while we are on the subject, we wouldn’t even if we could. Would we? Of course we wouldn’t. It’s not in our make up. On the very contrary. We are Villans to the core, and our life-long love affair with AVFC ensures that we wrap ourselves completely in the day to day events and happenings down dear old Brummagem B6 way, scouring the media for every little bit of inside information. That all too often makes and shapes our day.

It’s what we are, who we are, and it’s what we do. Which is precisely why for the next few days we will all be fully focused on the comings and goings at Bodymoor Heath- everything else (well, almost everything else) taking a backseat as we await to receive even the merest suggestion that a new potential signing might be talking to Paul Lambert and co, prior to putting his signature on a brand, spanking new three/four year deal (an effort that will make him an immediate claret and blue hero).

Of course we need more bodies coming into the club. Everybody tells me so, so I’m completely conditioned now into believing its true. ‘We need a this back, a that back, another experienced central defender is a must, our midfield is way too inexperienced, not creative enough, will be dominated all too easily, just isn’t up to the task, will be overrun and dominated even by the most average of opposition midfields, and don’t even mention our lack of width, or how impotent we are in front of goal’.

Yes, I’ve heard it all these past few days, when in discussions with both my most positive and negative of Villa friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances. I’ve come to think that maybe not even ten new Paul Lambert signings will suffice.

We all of course have our own views and opinions about anything and everything to do with Aston Villa, and rightly so. No one is right, no one is wrong, they’re all just personal opinions and observations. We all have our favourites who we’d love to see brought into the club, and we all hold strong opinions as to who needs to be shown the exit door.

It would all be so much easier of course if we ourselves were running the show. We all know that we could do a better job than Randy in running the club, and even though Paul Lambert is new to the fold and currently finds himself the apple of every supporters eye, come six or so games into the season, we’ll all know by then that we could select a better starting eleven than he ever could, our formation and tactics would be second to none, guaranteed to secure victories game after game, and let’s face it, we all know the exact right time to make the substitutions to ensure that the games always end in our favour. We’ve pulled that rabbit out of the hat so many, many times before. We’ve never been wrong!

Oh yes, lets also not forget of course, were we running the operation, as we should be, money would be no object. There would be an endless supply, no need for us to balance the books, or keep the club on an even keel. Remuneration packages? Don’t worry about it. Give them what they want.

Anyway, whatever side of the fence you are sitting on, whether you feel that multiple new faces are an absolute must, or whether you support the official line that money remains tight, that player’s wages still remain a concern and that our days of spending big are, for the time being, a thing of the past. It is going to be an extremely interesting next few days.

A few days that will no doubt completely shape our season.

Sadly, no time to sleep tonight. Got to keep an eye on NewsNow.
