Only Ryan Sessegnon and Steven Bergwijn are still missing for Spurs, giving Nuno Espirito Santo a near full strength squad for this one.

However, there will be rotation from the largely second string side that started against Mura in the Conference League on Thursday night - expect Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick off the bench, Son Heung-min, Hugo Lloris, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and others to start.

Tottenham vs Aston Villa head-to-head record

Tottenham have dominated this fixture in recent years, although Villa actually won the most recent time they they met in north London in May. It was 2-1 in favour of the visitors that day, with Ollie Watkins scoring the decisive goal in the first half. It was also Jack Grealish's last Villa game.

Prior to that, Spurs had won the last six against Villa, home and away, dating back to a Villa win at the old White Hart Lane in April 2015. But those two Villa victories in 2015 and 2021 are their only wins against Spurs in 21 attempts across all competitions since 2008.

Of those last 21 meetings, Spurs have won 16 of them.

Tottenham vs Aston Villa score prediction

Despite owning the recent head-to-head record, Spurs are in a bit of a mire as things stand.

They have lost three Premier League games in a row and were so awful against north London rivals Arsenal in their last domestic match that a 5-1 European win against a team no one in England had heard of until this week has barely raised spirits.

Villa, on the other hand, are on an upward trajectory after a mixed start to the season. They have won two in a row, demolishing Everton at home and then beating Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Aston Villa
